JWG's Experimental Eccentric — July 25, 2011

Wherein JWG & René are about to get a wedding "license".

Zwerglipatch  July 25, 2011  6:30 a.m. EDT

Excitement builds for our wedding which is tomorrow. This morning, in a couple of hours, René and I will go to the Smithtown Town Clerk’s Office for the license. A wedding “license” seems, and is, odd, yes? Again, the importance of a bit of paper that must be kept is one of society’s foibles. Too many bits of paper are lost or shredded.

René and I have heard from many of our Friends congratulating us. This is good. We are happy. For us, it seems this marriage is more for those who support us than it is for us ourselves. We feel we have had a legitimate marriage for thirty years. The next thirty years, we assume, will be starting over which isn’t bad. I promise, and vow, not to make the same mistakes I made during the previous thirty years. Not every couple has a thirty-year engagement. Well, thirty-one year engagement period during which either one of us could have stepped aside. In less than thirty-one hours, in the eyes of the law of this State (not our Country), we will be legally wed. Bizarre? No. We do hope, though, that where The State goes, the Country will follow.

I am most happy about not having to be involved with planning a wedding. I easily can see why nerves and jitters can throw all into a tizzy. I’ve witnessed this too many times. I will admit I am a bit paralyzed concerning the logistics of documents and remembering if we have “everything” which we do so my jittery nerves are just those of a typical spouse-to-be. Nothing changes. Life will go on as usual.
