Today’s Newsday has an article on page twelve headlined “Lining up to walk down aisle” in which the final paragraph states, “John Garand, 57, and his partner René Meyer, 61, were the first two same-sex couples at Smithtown Town Hall in the morning. The Hauppauge couple said getting married was important, even though they were already registered domestic partners. “We came out of the closet in the 80’s”, Meyer said. “This is like coming out of the house.” Carl MacGowan was the reporter for Newsday.
Other reporters we spoke to yesterday were Pat Biancaniello whose Smithtown Matters is online. Her article was well-written. It was an interview of René and me being a couple. The accompanying pictures she posted were good. Peter Verry, of Smithtown Patch, posted a well-edited video of us chatting as well as a small article. This is a good online news source for our area, too. Who knew that these existed? It is, indeed, a new world. I am happy to have more sources at hand.

Cursive writing is the topic of another op-ed piece in Newsday this morning. Less and less of us spend the day with pen in hand. I knew that day would arrive. I shall continue these daily musings with my pen in hand. Musing enables me to ponder. Yes, I know, I can ponder in front of a computer. However, I relax with my pen.
This morning, we have already received phone calls from my Sisters and Cousin and Friends to wish us well on this beautiful day — our Wedding Day.

Now, I will begin to get ready for this big event at Carlyle on the Green. This day has arrived. Exciting? Yes!
