JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Catalogs & Sensations (2 poems)

Wherein JWG gets excited about receiving a new catalog in the mail.

67. Catalogs

Catalogs
Have been thumbed through by millions of people
Wishing for “the best”.

Some wait for the mail
For ideas on how to redecorate —
Studying gorgeous layouts.

Wanting for a better Life,
Beginning by picturing what could be,
Compromising due to lack of cash.

When a purchase is decided on
And the order form is filled out and sent,
An interminable waiting game begins.

When the package does arrive,
It is opened as if it were a gift.
The contents are looked at eagerly.

Pictures remembered
Differ from objects in the opened box.
Perfection was expected.

Excitement.
A new catalog arrives to browse through.
Will we ever learn?

68. Sensations

Sensations
Swirl about me uniting the seasons.
I have no feeling.

Maintaining balance
Is an accomplishment I barely knew.
My feet have become magnets.

I stick to where I have been
Ignoring the electrical pulses
Urging me to move about the yard.

My eyes orbit about surroundings.
My ears decipher the odd vibrations.
My nose discerns flora that bakes in the Sun.

My muscular carriage halts.
Is it possible I am still napping?
My senses must have been awakened.

My pinkie has moved.
My eyes stare at the tapping, small finger.
I have no control of it.

I’m alert.
I’m waiting for the moment to arise.
Testing my patience...
