JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — It's a Thrill & Interest (2 poems)
Wherein JWG thrills at learning from reading.
65. It’s a Thrill
It’s a thrill
To watch gardens reawaken in Spring.
Was it really bare?
Little green buds grow
On long, gray branches like fresh drops of dew
Appearing on Summer’s lawns.

Many birds are taking baths
In the fresh water I have placed for them.
One just sits and soaks its feet.
Activity swells in afternoons.
Opened Flowers reach out to the sunlight.
Bees buzz from bloom to bloom collecting pollen.

The Earth tilts to warm us all.
As daylight lingers, it’s a treat to sit
Amid the verdant growth we’ve witnessed.
Starving at the green
Reassures us that if we are patient,
We are, indeed, quite lucky.
We’re sustained
By this twirling rock that we call our home.
We’re dizzy with joy.
66. Interest
Interest
In reading has always been part of me.
Words are forever.
I do not recall
When I first thought of reading as reading.
Writing was quite different.
Pretending to write some words
Was imaginative scribbling at best.
I don’t think I knew the alphabet.
To this day, it still fascinates me
To put letters side-by-side to form words
That actually have a significance.
Those who haven’t learned to read,
Well, I have nothing to say about them.
I cannot judge what I do not know.
Reading is learning.
Sometimes short sentences say a great deal.
Sometimes long books say nothing.
Having books,
If I dare say, is better than money.
Words are platinum.
