Firefighters Battle Another Fire at Abandoned Lake Grove School

Vacant school on Moriches Road has been on fire three times in the past year.

In the late night hours of Jan. 24, the Centereach Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the abandoned Lake Grove School on Moriches Road.

Upon arrival, commanding units were met with heavy smoke and flames from the third floor. The fire was moving aggressively fast and help was called in from other departments in the surrounding areas such as the Ronkonkoma, Nesconset and Selden fire departments. The fire burned for well over an hour before it was declared under control.

No injuries were reported. It was said by officials to of been a suspicious fire and the Suffolk County Arson Squad were called in to investigate, along with a Town Of Brookhaven fire marshal. This is the third time in the past year that there has been a major fire on this property.
