SMITHTOWN, NY — Blaze, a 6-year-old male Pit Bull Terrier, was named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week.

He was rescued by Smithtown Animal Control Officers when a call came in from the county that a dog was abandoned and left in a cage at Blydenburgh Park. Due to the dedication of the shelter's dog trainer and staff, Blaze has learned to trust and love humans again. When describing Blaze, the shelter used the line "From a Bitter Blydenburgh Beginning to a Fairy-tale Future." The only question is: Who will be Blaze's fairy godmother/godfather?
