Long Island Paralympian Visits Nesaquake Middle School In St. James
"All of you have a choice in life. To be either average, good or great. I hope from here on out you'll be great," Rohan Murphy told kids.
ST. JAMES, NY — Rohan Murphy, a Paralympian from Long Island, visited students at Nesaquake Middle School on Wednesday, the Smithtown School District announced.
“All of you have a choice in life," Murphy told the students. "To be either average, good or great. I hope from here on out you’ll be great.”
Murphy is an American Paralympian, wrestler and motivational speaker. Despite losing his legs at birth, he is one of the most decorated wrestlers in East Islip history, finishing his career as a three-time All-League and two-time All-County wrestler.

Murphy also earned three varsity letters while wrestling at Penn State.

“Growing up, doctors told me everything I can’t accomplish," Murphy said. "So I did it anyway just to prove them wrong and that I could be a successful."

In 2006, Murphy won a bronze medal in the 56 kg junior division of the 2006 IPC World Powerlifting Championships in South Korea. Murphy’s feat grabbed the attention of Nike, and he was then featured in Nike’s “No Excuses” campaign.
