Man Charged With Robbing Smithtown Bank: Police

The 31-year-old was arrested after he was found sitting in his car about 4 miles away from the scene, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY - A Bohemia man was arrested for robbing a Smithtown bank on Sunday morning, according to Suffolk Police.

John Scrofani Jr., 31, entered TD Bank on 714 Route 347, at 10:57 a.m. and presented a note to a teller demanding cash, police said.

After the teller complied, Scrofani fled the scene, police said.

Officers responded and found him in a car on Route 347 about 4 miles away at Brooksite Drive a short time later, police said.

Scrofani was charged with third degree robbery.

He will be held overnight and arraigned on Monday.
