Man Stole Money From 2 Suffolk Victims In Elder Scam: DA
The man posed as a bail bondsman and convinced elderly residents they were posting bail for their grandchildren, the DA says.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A Manhattan man pleaded guilty Wednesday to scamming two elderly Suffolk County residents, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced.
Ivan A. Inoasuero, 31, called two elderly Suffolk residents and falsely told them their grandchildren were arrested in a different jurisdiction and they needed to send large sums of money to post their bail immediately, the DA said.
Inoasuero pleaded guilty to third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony. His sentencing is scheduled for April 26. He will be required to pay restitution back to the victims, and if he does not, he faces up to 2-and-a-half to 7 years in prison.

"Since taking office in January of last year, I have been shocked and dismayed to see the degree
in which fraudsters are targeting our elderly residents to steal money," Tierney said via news release. "If you target the elderly in Suffolk County and fraudulently steal their money, you will
be held responsible and required to pay back the money you stole."
Inoasuero admitted he posed as a bail bondsman and went to a Smithtown woman's home in April 2021 to pick up $15,000 after she thought she was posting bail for her grandson, authorities said.

He again posed as a bail bondsman in December 2021 when he met a Stony Brook resident at MacArthur Airport to pick up $20,000, prosecutors said. The man believed he was posting bail for his grandson, officials said.
He is being represented by John Halverson.
