Options Awarded Contract from NYS Office of Mental Health

SMITHTOWN-BASED OPTIONS FOR COMMUNITY LIVING AWARDED CONTRACT TO DEVELOP NEW SUPPORTED HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES IN SUFFOLK COUNTY.

On September 23, 2014, the New York State Office of Mental Health notified Options for Community Living, Inc. that the Smithtown-based agency was selected to develop 15 new supported housing beds for Suffolk County residents with mental illness.

“Long-term, recovery-oriented supported housing is one of the most effective ways to end homelessness among the most vulnerable populations,” stated Diana Antos Arens, executive director, Options for Community Living. “Tenants have affordable housing and access to the support they need to stay housed and healthy.”

Options for Community Living currently provides housing and support services to 349 Suffolk County residents through its Mental Health Residential Programs. Tenants in supported housing pay about one-third of their income toward rent and get both a roof over their heads and supportive services to ensure that special needs are met.
