Crews kept grinders running overnight with portable light towers so residents could see roads cleared quickly, while the collected debris is being turned into mulch that locals may later use for fall landscaping.

• Stranger Offered 14-Year-Old Girl $300 In St. James: Police (patch.com) — A 14-year-old girl walking home from Smithtown High School East in St. James was approached by a man who allegedly made an inappropriate comment and offered her $300, police said. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers released images of the suspected vehicle and is asking anyone with information to report tips anonymously as they investigate child endangerment.

• 2 People Exposed To Rabid Raccoons In Kings Park, Officials Say (patch.com) — Health officials are warning residents after two people in Kings Park needed rabies treatment following encounters with infected raccoons, and a vaccinated dog in Smithtown recently received a booster after a possible exposure. Authorities urge locals to avoid touching wild animals and to report raccoons acting strangely while keeping pets' rabies vaccinations up to date.
