Police: Off-Duty MTA Cop Accidentally Shot Gun, Injuring Himself and 3-Year-Old Son

Police have released new details in the accidental shooting at a Smithtown home Tuesday evening.

According to police, an off-duty Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officer accidentally discharged his gun and injured himself and his 3-year-old son at their residence on Devon Lane shortly before 7 p.m. They were both transported to Stony Brook University Hospital and are listed in stable condition. The boy underwent surgery to remove the bullet Tuesday night.

Fourth Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.
