Stun Gun Found In Holbrook Bust: Suffolk Cops

A pair of local people were found in a 2019 Kia on Dolphin Lane just before 10 p.m. on Thursday, police said.

HOLBROOK, NY — A local man and woman — one armed with a stun gun — were arrested on drug charges on Thursday in Holbrook, Suffolk police said.

The pair were found inside a 2019 Kia on Dolphin Lane just before 10 p.m., said police, adding, that Gerald Matzen, 38, of Brookhaven was caught with a stun gun and was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Matzen was also charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for an incident in which officers found crack cocaine, multiple cell phones, and digital scales during the execution of a search warrant of his car back on Dec. 30, police said.

Matzen was additionally charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for having cocaine, as well as two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for having fentanyl and naloxone during the December incident, police said.

Matzen was also charged with a parole violation, according to police.

Suffolk District Attorney spokeswoman Tania Lopez said Matzen was a parole absconder who had an outstanding warrant and he was recognized by local officers who knew of the warrant.

Police officers charged him with the December drug offenses on Thursday because it was the first opportunity they had, according to Lopez.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mastic resident Dylan Reinstein, a passenger in Matzen's car, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, for having crack cocaine, according to police. Police did not release any further details.

When asked about a glass pipe that was in her possession, Reinstein told an officer it was "just a crack pipe that I threw," according to a misdemeanor complaint provided by the DA's office.

Matzen is being held on a $600,000 bond and/or $300,000 cash bail, according to online court records. Matzen's attorney, Roger Bruce Rothman of Bohemia, did not respond to a request for comment.

Reinstein's court records were not available.
