The Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Commack Fire Department recently conducted a simulated Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill at the North Ridge Primary School on Town Line Road in Commack.

The drill scenario involved a small plane that crashed into the back of the school with 42 patients scattered around the grounds, some trapped underneath debris. Mutual aid for additional ambulances was requested from the Dix Hills, Northport, East Northport, Centerport, Greenlawn, Smithtown, Kings Park and Melville fire departments, and the Central Islip and Stony Brook volunteer ambulance squads.

The drill was held under the direction of CVAC Chief Tom Lowenberg for EMS operations, and Commack FD Third Assistant Chief Bobby Wilkins for firematic operations. The patients were portrayed by CVAC Juniors who were transported to the Burr Intermediate School, which was used as the receiving hospital.
