Smithtown High School East Student Named National Merit Winner

SMITHTOWN, NY - A Smithtown High School East student was recently named a National Merit Finalist.

Cindy Li, of Nesconset, was among 2,500 finalists to receive a $2,500 Merit Scholarship award based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments.

The winners were selected from a pool of 15,000 students.

The National Merit Scholarship Competition evaluates participants on their academic record, school's curricula and grading system, two SAT scores, school official's written recommendation, the finalist's extracurricular activities, leadership and personal essay.
