SMITHTOWN, NY — On Friday night, Smithtown High Schools East and West are scheduled to join other Long Island high schools in illuminating their field scoreboards in an organized tribute to high school senior athletes, seniors and students who have lost out on experiences this spring because of the new coronavirus. From 8:20 p.m. to 8:40 p.m., the two Smithtown turf field scoreboards will read "2020," Patrick Smith, Smithtown director of athletics wrote on Facebook.

Smith encouraged parents and the rest of the community to participate.

"Additionally, I am asking that community members turn their house and business lights on and off for a few minutes in support of our Smithtown East and West students and especially our seniors have lost out on so many experiences," he said.
