Smithtown School Budget Passes Easily, Thode Wins Contested Board Seat
Voters have decided on a proposed 2015-16 budget.

Smithtown residents approved the school district’s $229.5 million proposed budget on Tuesday by a margin of 2,582-761.
The budget represents a .91 percent spending increase over the current year and it includes a 2.22 percent hike in the school tax levy, which is within the district’s state tax cap.
In races for the Smithtown Board of Education, incumbent Christopher Alcure and newcomer Jeremy Thode were the victors. Alcure ran unopposed and Thode defeated MaryRose Rafferty by a margin of 2,144-862.
