Smithtown Residents Approve School Budget
Smithtown residents headed to the polls Tuesday to vote on a school budget and elect board members.

SMITHTOWN, NY - Smithtown residents approved the district's $251,429,436 proposed budget on Tuesday by a margin of 1,955 to 781.
The budget represents a 2.66 percent spending increase over the current year and a tax levy increase of 2.69 percent.
In the vote for Smithtown Board of Education members, incumbents Michael Saidens and Frank James both ran unopposed. Saidens received 1,624 votes while James received 1,598 votes.

Michael Catalanotto beat out Peter Tufo for the seat left open by Daniel B. Lynch. Catalanotto received 1,853 while Tufo received 836.
Ralph Michele lost to Jerry R. Martusciello for the seat left open by Gladys Waldron. Michele received 891 while Martusciello received 1,511 votes.
