Smithtown Students Head To DECA International

Ninety students from Smithtown's two high schools recently participated in the New York DECA State Competition in Rochester.

From Smithtown Schools: Ninety students from Smithtown Central School District’s two high schools participated in the New York DECA State Competition in Rochester, New York, in early March. Smithtown students received 84 medals and trophies. Twenty Smithtown students qualified to attend the International Career Conference in Orlando, Florida, where they will compete against the top winners from across the globe.

More than 3,000 from across New York State competed in this year’s events. The competitions included business topics such as marketing, finance, public relations, accounting and entrepreneurship. Students competed in either tests and role plays or written manuals and presentations. In addition to students placing in various competitions, Smithtown’s DECA team was awarded chapter recognition for the following areas: Smithtown High School East – community service, global entrepreneurship and promotional campaign; Smithtown High School West – community service and promotional campaign.
