UPDATE: Power Restored For Most Long Islanders as Wind Dies Down
Wind advisory for the island has now ended.

PSEG Long Island is currently reporting that 1,483 of its customers are without power.
Wind gusts of up to 55 mph slammed the island earlier Sunday, knocking down trees and power lines. At one point more than 11,000 Long Islanders were without power, but that figure has now been on the decline for several hours.
As of 8:46 p.m., 1,365 PSEG customers in Nassau and 109 in Suffolk–are without power, according to PSEG’s outage map.

“Crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power,” PSEG Long Island said on its Facebook page earlier Sunday. ”The most important priority is your safety and that of our crews. If you see any downed wire, assume it is a live electric wire and report it immediately. Call 1-800-490-0075 anytime.”

For Monday, the high temperature should near 60 degrees, but it will be bitter cold in the morning with the wind chill making the temperature feel below freezing.
