Balloons At Southampton Village Parade Cause Power Outage: Cops

Despite the fun July 4 festivities, the power went out for a while in Southampton Tuesday due to balloons, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Balloons caught in overhead wires caused a power outage in Southampton Village during the July 4 parade, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, during the parade, at 12:17 p.m., a transformer blew at the intersection of Main Street and Jobs Lane, causing power outages.

Damage to the transformer was caused by the helium filled plastic balloons getting caught up in the wires, police said.

Power was fully restored once crews from PSEG repaired the lines; power was fully restored by 1:30 p.m., police said.
