Disabled Military Vet's Dog Missing In Sag Harbor
Kenneth, a rescue from Puerto Rico, was only home for a day before he ran out; he has no idea where he is, his worried owner says.

SAG HARBOR, NY — A disabled military veteran in Sag Harbor is trying desperately to find a small dog, newly rescued, that ran out of her home just hours after she brought him home.
"We’ve been out for over a week looking for a little lost guy, Kenneth," said Barbara Jude Frerichs, who has been helping to organize the search. "His new owner, Danielle Denardo, had him only one day — and one split second of opening a door too soon had him loose and off," she said.
Kenneth, she said, had his leash on; Denardo and her husband Mike were getting ready to take him for a walk.

Kenneth is small, just 10 lbs., about 9 years old, fluffy, and a rescue from Puerto Rico. He was lost from Denise Street in Sag Harbor on Friday, January 24.

"This one is a heartbreaker for everyone involved," Frerichs said. "I feel terribly. This little one is so small."

Denardo, who has two other rescue dogs, Muddy and Marmaduke, said the dogs jumped on the screen door and Kenneth ran out, wearing his leash and harness.
Just adopted from Bideawee, she said, "He doesn't know where he is at all. I don't know what to do." Although signs have been put up from Sag Harbor to East Hampton, Denardo said, "There's no sign of him. No one has called to say they've seen him."
Kenneth, she said, is "very sweet, not aggressive at all. I can't even imagine what he's going through now. The thought that he's out there just kills me."
Because he's missing without a trace, with no paw prints, sightings, or leash found, there's concern that someone may have taken Kenneth, Denardo said.
Tracker Teddy Henn has been searching, Denardo said.
Denardo spent six years in Iraq, she said; she and her husband and two children love animals and have rescued many dogs over the years.
Anyone who might spot Kenneth, she said, should sit down and try to call him. "Don't try to chase him. He was found on the street in Puerto Rico, hurt and starved. Just call him and try to have him come to you. Because he has his leash on, you might be able to catch him — especially if you have food in your pocket," she said.
