Drunk Driver Caught Speeding With BAC Nearly 3X Legal Limit: Cops

The driver was wanted on an ICE warrant, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Southampton man was caught speeding drunk on County Road 39 with a blood alcohol content of nearly three times the legal limit, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, on July 17 at 1:10 a.m., Jose Maria Escobar-Ruiz, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, all misdemeanors.

Escobar-Ruiz was driving a 2016 Toyota Tundra east on County Road 39 at a high rate of speed while weaving in and out of the westbound lane of oncoming traffic, police said.

When Escobar-Ruiz finally brought his vehicle to a stop, a passenger exited the vehicle and ran off into a nearby wooded area; Escobar-Ruiz was taken into custody, police said. His BAC was nearly three times the legal limit of intoxication of .08%, police said.

A computer check revealed that he was wanted on an active arrest warrant through ICE, police said.
