Drunk Driver Leads Cops On High Speed Chase: Police

He tried to evade police by making multiple, abrupt maneuvers in a residential neighborhood, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A drunk East Hampton driver led police on a chase in Southampton recently, authorities said.

According to Southampton Village Police, on Oct. 7 at 1:27 a.m., Ivan R. Tepan, 23, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, reckless driving, and third degree unlawfully fleeing from a police officer, all misdemeanors.

While stopped for the traffic light on County Road 39 at the intersection with David Whites Lane in the westbound lane, police observed the driver of a 2014 Nissan traveling east on County Road 39 in the westbound travel lanes at a very high rate of speed, forcing the officer in a marked police unit to leave the roadway, police said.

The officer attempted to stop the driver, who tried to evade police by making multiple, abrupt maneuvers in a residential neighborhood, police said.

Police were able to force Tepan to bring his vehicle to a stop; he was subsequently arrested and charged, police said.

Tepan was held for morning arraignment and was released after posting $500 cash bail, police said.
