Gunshots Fired At Shinnecock Indian Powwow: Cops
A Long Island man fired a semi-automatic at the Powwow Saturday night, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Gunshots were fired at the Shinnecock Indian Powwow Saturday night, police said.
According to New York State Police, the incident took place at 8 p.m. when troopers assigned to security at the Shinnecock Indian Powwow on the reservation in Southampton heard shots fired near the area.
Troopers saw a man, later identified as Devon Trent, 23, of Mastic, involved in a physical altercation with other Powwow attendees, police said.

Witnesses reported that Trent was holding a black semi-automatic gun and fired one shot; an unknown person closest to Trent grabbed the gun, a physical altercation ensued and, during the altercation, a second shot was fired, police said.
Next, the unknown man ran from the area with the gun and stated he was headed to security, police said.

No one was injured in the gunfire, the identity of the man who ran off with the gun is still unknown, and Trent was arrested and taken into custody, police said. He was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; first degree reckless endangerment, a felony; second degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony; and second degree menacing, a misdemeanor, police said.
The New York State Police's forensic identity unit responded to the scene and recovered two 40-caliber expanded casings and two 40-caliber rounds, police said.
The case is ongoing and being handled by New York State Police's Bureau of Criminal Investigation, police said.
Trent is being held for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court.
