Hero Cops, Local Businesses Help Kids Shop For Back-To-School: Photos

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — One lucky group of kids will head back to school this year with full backpacks and big smiles, thanks to police officers with hearts of gold and generous local businesses.
On Thursday, members of The Southampton Town Police Department, The Southampton Town Police Explorers, and New York State Police participated in a “Heroes and Helpers” event sponsored by Target stores, a release said.
"The event was a outstanding success, helping children from Southampton Town purchase much needed school supplies for the upcoming school year," police said.

Target in Riverhead sponsored the program, and the Southampton Town Patrolman's Benevolent Association and Southampton Town Superior Officers Association provided extra funds to purchase additional supplies for the children.
Chipotle Mexican Grill and Costco in Riverhead donated dinner and dessert for the participants; department members and children enjoyed fun-filled activities, shopping and dinner together, the release said.

"The department continues to reach out to our community to assist those who might need a helping hand," police said.
