Man Nabbed In Thanksgiving Eve DWI Checkpoint: Police

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated as the result of a Thanksgiving Eve sobriety checkpoint on Flanders Road, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Robert Hamilton, Jr., 57, was arrested and charged with DWI.

Southampton Town Police conducted the three-hour checkpoint on the northbound side of Flanders Road at the rest area, authorities said. A total of 309 vehicles were screened with just one arrest, police said.

Hamilton was taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
