Man With Scale, White Powdery Substance Leads Cops On Chase: Police

The Bridgehampton man was arrested after initially eluding authorities in a Southampton Village chase, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Bridgehampton man who was caught parked on Elm Street with a digital scale and a white powdery substance, and who led police on a chase, has been arrested, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, on July 2 at 1:46 a.m., Darren A. Williams, 30, of Bridgehampton, was arrested on an arrest warrant and charged with two counts of fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

The arrest stemmed from an April 19, 2015 incident when police said they observed Williams sitting in a parked 2006 Nissan Frontier on Elm Street with a digital scale containing a white powdery substance on his lap, authorities said.

Upon getting Williams out of the vehicle he fled on foot, leading officers on a foot pursuit, which ended with Williams not being apprehended until July 2, police said.
