National Prescription Drug Take Back Day: Dispose Of Rx Nearby
Southampton Town Police are participating in National Drug Take Back Day; here's where to bring your unused prescription medications.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — In the ongoing battle against opioid addiction, as well as the fight to protect the environment, Saturday marks National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
In Southampton, "Operation Medicine Cabinet," organized by the Southampton Town Police Department, Southampton Town Councilwoman Julie Lofstad, and the Southampton Town Youth Bureau will be part of the Drug Enforcement Agency's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day effort, and will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Expired and unused medication for safe disposal will be collected at the following locations:

- The Hampton Bays Community Center, 25 Ponquogue Ave., Hampton Bays
- The Flanders Community Center, 655 Flanders Road, Flanders

- The Southampton Town Police substation at Bridgehampton Commons, 2044 Montauk Hwy. in Bridgehampton.
"Unused medications that are not disposed of can wind up in the hands of our most vulnerable populations, and flushing medication will ultimately wind up in our aquifer and pollute our drinking water. Help keep our community safe and clean by turning in your unused medication," Southampton Police said.
The service is free and confidential. Liquid medications, syringes, sharps, and thermometers cannot be accepted.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, Diversion Control Division's website, "The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications."
