'Overwhelming' Response Helps Police ID Man Hit By 2 Vehicles On LI

FLANDERS, NY — After an outpouring of help, police have identified the man struck by two vehicles on Flanders Road Sunday night as Julio Sicay-Perez, 43, of Flanders.

"The community responded to the request for information in an overwhelming way," helping to find and notify Sicay-Perez' family, police said.

On Monday, police asked the public for help to identify the pedestrian hit by two vehicles Sunday night in Flanders, who died at the scene. They released a photo of his tattoo, to help identify him.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 7:29 p.m. Sunday, several 911 calls came in for a pedestrian who had been struck at the intersection of Flanders Road and Route 105.

A 46-year-old from Madison, Connecticut, who was driving a Mercedes SUV and turning from Flanders Road onto Route 105, struck Sicay-Perez when he ran out in front of the car, police said. That crash sent him into a lane of travel, where he was struck by the second vehicle, a 2013 Honda Odyssey driven by a 37-year-old Riverhead man, police said.

Both drivers remained on scene and cooperated with police; no charges were filed, authorities said.

Southampton Town Police personnel responded and requested the Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance and the Flanders Fire Department for assistance, police said. Southampton Town detectives also responded and are currently investigating the crash, police said.
