Police Identify Man Struck, Killed By LIRR Train In Southampton

He was crossing the tracks in a wooded area and did not respond to a warning horn to stop, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Police have identified a pedestrian struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train in Southampton Wednesday as Rodney Brumsey, 57.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 3:43 p.m. a call came in about the person struck by an LIRR train, in the area of N. Bishop Lane and Moses Lane.

The eastbound train stopped about 200 feet east of the Moses Lane train crossing; Brumsey, of Southampton, was deceased when police arrived, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Brumsey was crossing the tracks near a wooded area and did not respond to a warning horn signaled by the engineer, police said.

Unable to stop in time, the eastbound train fatally struck Brumsey, police said. MTA Police are conducting the ongoing investigation, authorities said.

The incident marked the second time in recent weeks that an individual was struck by an LIRR train in Southampton; a Southampton man died after being struck on August 1.
