'Reckless' Driver Swerves Toward Town Highway Employees: Police

He also struck and damaged cones, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Shirley man was arrested and charged after he swerved toward town highway employees in Southampton and hit cones, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, between July 13 and July 20, officers responded to County

Rd 39 and Tuckahoe Rd for reports of a "reckless, erratic driver."

In one incident, Michael Stetson, 48, who was driving a 2021 white Ford utility vehicle, yelled
and swerved toward Southampton Town highway employees who were working, police said. In another incident, Stetson struck cones, causing damage to them, police said.

On Monday, Stetson was located, arrested, and taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters, where he was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, police said.

Stetson was transported to Southampton Town Justice Court for arraignment shortly after, police said.
