Sag Harbor School District Appoints New Assistant Principal

The district announced the new assistant principal on Tuesday.

The Sag Harbor School District recently announced that Michael Guinan has been appointed as the new assistant principal at Pierson High School.

Before joining the district, Guinan was a lead executive with The Achievement Network, where he provided professional development, planning support and leadership coaching to empower districts, school leaders and teachers to individualize instruction to improve learning outcomes.

He has also served as an independent education consultant, where he worked with the New York State Education Department and Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Guinan began his career in education as an English teacher at Brushwick High School in Brooklyn.

He also spent time teaching English overseas, where he served as a kindergarten teacher in Taiwan.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from New College of Florida, Honors College, with a double major in literature and theatre and a Master of Education degree in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University.

He is currently enrolled in New York University’s education administration and policy doctorate program.

Additionally, Guinan is an International Baccalaureate trained/certified administrator and coordinator and is knowledgeable in conversational Spanish.

He has also been the recipient of multiple awards, including Harvard’s Presidential Research Fellowship and Teacher of the Year for English.
