Sheriff Spotlights 2 Programs For Domestic Violence Victims
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco is sp0tlighting two programs that are aimed at saving lives and protecting victims.
One in 4 women will be the victim of domestic violence at some point in her lifetime and 3 women are killed every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner, DeMarco said.
The two potentially life-saving victim notification programs are offered by the Sheriff’s Office through the New York State Sheriffs’ Institute.

The first, DeMarco said, is the Order of Protection Notification Program, which allows domestic violence victims to register to be notified by phone, text message, or e-mail when a family court order of protection has been served. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The second is the Prisoner Release Notification Program, powered by VINE®, which allows crime victims to register here or toll-free at 1-888-VINE-4-NY to be notified by phone or e-mail in the event of an offender’s release from jail or prison. This service is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
