Single Mom Needs Help To Save Family Home
"Our house has provided stability and consistency to our small single-parent family, and we are heartsick."

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A single mom is in desperate need of help to save the house she and her daughter call home.
A GoFundMe page, "Help This Single Black Mom And Daughter Keep Home," was created by Ann Jones Levine of Southampton to help a local teacher and friend.
"Through no fault of our own, Towera and I find ourselves in the position of fighting to save our home of seven years," wrote mom Mbachi Kumwenda, of her plight. "Our house has provided stability and consistency to our small single-parent family, and we are heartsick."

Their home, she said, is located in "the historically Black neighborhood in Bridgehampton and is the first house to obtain a legal deed on Huntington Crossway. Our modest home stands today because a Black family worked as sharecroppers to purchase a lot for their children in Bridgehampton, and this legacy makes the fight to save our home that much more significant."
She added: "My daughter lives in a house and on a street founded by hardworking Black people, and she is now part of their history. My only recourse in my efforts to fight to keep our home is to create a GoFundMe. If you know me, you must know how difficult it is to share my personal story and ask for help. Please help preserve the integrity of hardworking people and their families, and give what you can."

Levine added: "I need your help: I love Mbachi Kumwenda and Towera. I know our whole community does. Mbachi is a beloved teacher and has such a special way with kids. Their family means so much to us and we need them to feel safe and secure in their home. Please use this opportunity to take action. Black Lives Matter," she said. "This money is urgently needed to save their home."
