Today in Southampton:

  1. The Southampton Arts Center received a $49,500 grant award from the New York State Council on the Arts. The grant will be used to support overall operations of the Southampton Arts Center, including the presentation of five exhibitions and more than 175 programs. According to the New York State Council on the Arts, the grant is to "support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector" after the long months of the pandemic. (Southampton Patch)
  2. The Southampton Union Free School District announced that Shea Rodriguez, a Southampton High School senior, has been recognized by the College Board's National Hispanic Recognition Program as a National Hispanic Scholar. Not only is she being honor after scoring in the top 2.5 percent, but she also maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Rodriguez also gives back to her community by helping with the Special Olympics, and volunteering at the Heart of the Hamptons, Southampton Youth Task Force and Act Two. (Southampton Patch)
  3. The Suffolk County Police Department is accepting donations at each of the SCPD precincts and headquarters through Friday, Jan. 14 for the survivors of a New York City apartment building fire that killed 17 people and hospitalized dozens. The items needed are nonperishables, such as clothing, sheets, baby items and more. (Newsbreak)
