Southampton Intermediate School Designated As An International Spanish Academy

Students and faculty attended a special ceremony in Washington Heights with Her Majesty Queen Letizia of Spain.

Southampton Intermediate School Dual Language students traveled with Superintendent Dr. Scott Farina, Superintendent of Instruction Dr. Nick Dyno, Principal Tim Frazier, and teachers Ellen Martín, Mary Jane Greenfield, and Sarah Underhill-Trujillo to P.S. 103 Dos Puentes Elementary School in Washington Heights on Monday, Sept. 22, to accept Southampton Intermediate Schools’ designation as an International Spanish Academy (ISA) from Her Majesty Queen Letizia of Spain in a special ceremony.

Southampton Intermediate School now joins Southampton Elementary School and approximately 100 schools across the United States and Canada in offering immersion dual language programs recognized and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

The event also marked Queen Letizia’s first official visit to New York as head of state. Southampton Intermediate School students Vimarsha Sital, Kasia Rus, and Julie Ordonez were brave enough to ask Queen Letizia to take “selfies” with them.
