Southampton Man Caught With Loaded Handgun: Police

BREAKING: Bail was set at $25,000, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Southampton man was arrested Wednesday night after he was caught with a loaded handgun, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, Terrell Donald Smith, 19, was arrested at 11:53 p.m. and charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Southampton Village Police officers, on foot patrol on Windward Way, came upon a parked 2015 Chrysler 200 with two male occupants, police said.

Officers detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and while getting both occupants out of the vehicle, a loaded Colt automatic .25 caliber handgun was found to be in Smith's possession, police said.

Smith was taken into custody and held for morning arraignment, where he was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facilities in Riverside in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, police said.
