SOUTHAMPTON, NY — In a win-win gesture, the Southampton Town Police Department opened its hearts to local students, as well as individual in need.
The police department, with an eye toward giving back, recently donated older model desktop computers to the Eastern Suffolk Boces Computer Technology Program, authorities said.
According to a release, Police Officer Melissa Benjamin, who is the department's Juvenile Aid Officer, developed the idea and worked with instructor Giovanni Chiarelli and the Southampton town
board to provide the "much needed" equipment to the program.

The computers are utilized by students to learn trouble shooting skills in the technology field; the students will then refurbish them and donate the now-working computers to people in need within the community.
The computers, which are outdated for departmental use "will provide members of our community access to computers for educational purposes," police said.
