SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The Southampton Town Police Department has been successfully accredited by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice.
According to police, the department was awarded the "Certificate of Accreditation" by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice on Sept. 6. Southampton Town Police Captain Lawrence Schurek and Sergeant Michael Joyce, program manager, accepted the award from the New York State Accreditation Council during a ceremony held at the Alfred E. Smith State Office Building in Albany.
The New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Program was established to provide law enforcement agencies with a mechanism to evaluate and improve the overall effectiveness of their agency and the performance of their staff, police said.
