Southampton Town Board Set To Authorize Raising Parts Of Dune Road
The $1 million in funding will be used to raise the lowest sections between the Quogue line and Road K, the supervisor says.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — After years of flooding and overwash during storms, the Southampton town board is poised to authorize raising sections of Dune Road.
A special town board meeting will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Southampton Town Hall; the town board is set to amend the 2017-2021 capital budget for the elevation of Dune Road.
Southold Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said the town has already borrowed $1 million for the project; the funds are sitting in a town bank account and ready.

"With asphalt prices at a historical low," Schneiderman said he asked Town Highway Superintendent Alex Gregor to look at the idea of using the funding to pave the lowest areas of Dune Road, effectively lifting up those sections.
"Instead of paving the whole five miles," the focus will be the stretch from the Quogue line to Road K, Schneiderman said.

"It's going to be a significant difference, especially during high tide," the supervisor said.
