Southampton Town Supervisor to Run For U.S. House of Representatives

Supervisor Anna Thorne-Holst unofficially announced she will be challenging Lee Zeldin in the 2016 election.

Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Thorne-Holst unofficially announced earlier this week that she will be running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representative’s 1st District, currently occupied by Lee Zeldin in the 2016 election, according to a report in 27east.

“I love my job as supervisor, and I so appreciate the people I work with and it’s a day-to-day relationship that I treasure,” she told 27east. “On the other hand, I think my brand of ‘people not politics’ is sorely needed in Washington. I have a seven-and-a-half-year track record of minding the house and keeping a lid on taxes and cleaning up where cleaning up is needed. I think that’s the kind of legislating that is needed in Washington.”

Thorne-Holst, who was first elected as councilwoman in 2007, became supervisor in 2009 and was re-elected in both 2011 and 2013. She is eligible to serve one more two-year term as supervisor, according to 27east.
