The official will run Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst's seat.

Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman (I-Montauk) recently confirmed he will be running for Southampton Town Supervisor in the upcoming election.

Schneiderman will be running for current Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst’s seat after she recently announced she will be running for U.S. Representative in 2016 and will not be seeking re-election.

“I’ve come to know Southampton and Southampton has come to know me,” Schneiderman said.

According to his bio on the Suffolk County Legislator website, Schneiderman was previously a member of the Town of East Hampton Zoning Board of Appeals in 1991, and was appointed to its chairmanship from 1996 until 1999, when he was elected to the first of two terms as East Hampton Town Supervisor.

“During his four years in office, Supervisor Schneiderman’s highly effective management style delivered four consecutive tax cuts to the citizens of East Hampton, and garnered the highest municipal bond rating in New York State,” his bio reads. “From 2000 to 2004 he led the fight to preserve over 1,000 acres of East Hampton’s open space and worked closely with fellow board members to draft long-range plans for affordable housing and drinking water protection.”

In November 2003, Schneiderman was elected to the County Legislature and was re-elected in both 2005 and in 2007.

In 2009, he won with 100 percent of the vote on all party lines and he won again in 2011.

He was elected to his sixth and final term as legislature in November 2013.

If elected as Supervisor, Schneiderman says he hopes to tackle quality of life issues such as lack of affordable house, traffic problems and a host of other issues in the Southampton area.
