Teen Seriously Hurt in North Haven Crash

The 17-year-old was airlifted to the hospital. He faces charges for reckless driving and driving without a license, police say.

A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured when he crashed his pickup truck into several mailboxes before the vehicle overturned in the Village of North Haven early Sunday morning, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, James Peralta Sanchima was driving a 2003 GMC south on Short Beach Road at about 4:13 a.m. when he lost control of the truck. After overturning, the vehicle came to rest across the northbound lane, police said.

Peralta Sanchima, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital via a Suffolk Police helicopter. He was listed in serious, but stable condition.

Along with police, the Sag Harbor Fire Department and Sag Harbor Ambulance responded to the scene. 

Police charged Peralta Sanchima with reckless driving and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He will appear in court at a later date.
