Woman Caught With Loaded Gun In Southampton DWI Crackdown: Cops

A woman with a loaded gun was arrested as Southampton Town participated in the Suffolk County DA's East End DWI Task Force, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Memorial Day weekend DWI crackdown in Southampton Town resulted in nine arrests — including one woman who was caught with a loaded handgun, police said.

Southampton Town Police hosted one segment of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office East End DWI Task Force from 8 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday, police said.

A roadside checkpoint was set up on Flanders Road at Enterprise Zone Drive in Riverside from 9:33 p.m. to 11:54 p.m.; during that time, 216 vehicles were screened, resulting in four arrests of individuals charged with driving while intoxicated, one arrested and charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, one person arrested and charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm, and one person arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

After 11:54 p.m., saturation patrols were utilized throughout the town, and another eight vehicles were screened, resulting in an additional two individuals arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

At the checkpoint

- Cynthia D. Hoghkirk, 53, of Aquebogue, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, police said.

- Enrique Maricio-Rivera, 52, of Hampton Bays, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, police said.

- Tawnee H. Peterson, 35, of Hampton Bays, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, police said.

- Cornelio Martinez, 30, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, police said.

- A man, 26, of North Augusta, SC, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

- Ashley Nicole Wheeler, 23, of North Augusta, SC, was arrested and charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, loaded firearm, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of noxious material, self defense spray, police said.

- Devon D. Clemons, 26, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation, 29 suspensions, police said.

During saturation patrols

- Napolean Delossantos-Franco, 33, of Bridgehampton, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, police said.

- Edyn Lopez, 27 of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, police said.

All of those arrested were processed at Southampton Town Police headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.

No vehicle collisions involving injuries were reported within Southampton Town during the DWI Task Force enforcement detail, police said.

"Southampton Town Police would like to thank all of the designated drivers and those who did drink and chose not to drive for helping make this holiday weekend safer upon Southampton Town roadways," police said.

Eight members of the task force from the Southampton Town Police Department, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, the Southampton Village Police Department, the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and the East Hampton Town Police Department participated in the enforcement.
