16-Year-Old Posted Rape, Abuse On Social Media: Police

The teen has been charged and sent to a juvenile facility on bail. Viewing or sharing the disturbing video is a crime, police say.

BREWSTER, NY — A 16-year-old has been arrested for rape and sex abuse. New York State police said the crime was recorded and posted to social media. Viewing or sharing the disturbing video is a crime, police said.

The 16-year-old, whose name and gender has not been released, was arraigned in Putnam County Family Court.

The arrestee was sent to a juvenile detention facility on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

The arrest happened Oct. 18, police said. The charges are Rape 1st Degree, a class B felony, and Sexual Abuse 1st Degree, a class D felony.

Police said they learned during the investigation that the crime was recorded and posted to social media.

"The public should be aware that the dissemination/sharing/viewing of this disturbing video is a crime, and subject to arrest," police said in the press release.
