Art Classes for ages 15 and up at the Studio Around the Corner

Adults - Basic Drawing – ages 15 and up –

Mondays, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. - for six sessions, 2 hour classes.

October 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30th.

Make up class for weather – December 7th.

Drawing is a fun skill that everyone can learn and enjoy. Learning to draw is a pleasure and increases our appreciation for the world around us.

The class environment is designed to be encouraging and positive so that even drawing phoebes will quickly feel at home!

We will create drawings working from still life and photographs using artist’s pencils, erasers and drawing paper. Handouts on what we learned will be given with each class. We will begin with contour drawing and move quickly into shading to create depth and form. The final project for this course will be discussed the second day of class.

Young Persons - Italic Calligraphy 101 – ages 10 and up

Mondays, 12:30 p.m. -2:00 p.m. for six sessions, 1 ½ hour classes.

October 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30th.

In an age of texting and keyboarding, using dip pens and ink to create beautiful, imaginative, whimsical or creative letters by hand may seem out of date. To learn how to create Italic, Blackletter or any of the other major calligraphy hands will improve your ability to create and design your own letters. Useful for quotes, poems, prayers, posters – anything that you can hand letter!!!!

Italic is a calligraphic hand that uses a broad edged pen to create fine lines and shades of the letters. It is the contrast between thin and thick strokes that makes calligraphy calligraphic!

In this first of a series of courses, students will progress from learning the basic letterforms to writing sentences. The project for this course will include a finished quote of your choice.

Adults - Copperplate Calligraphy 101 – ages 15 and up –

Mondays, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. - for six sessions, 2 hour classes.

October 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30th.

Make up class for weather – December 7thst.

In an age of texting and keyboarding, using dip pens and ink to create swirling flourishes and elegant writing is perhaps an anachronism. But so well worth the time and practice it takes to learn this beautiful art form.

Copperplate Calligraphy uses a pointed pen and pressure to create the fine hairlines and swelling shades of the letters. Suitable for quotes, prayers, invitations – it always looks just right!

In this first of a series of courses, students will progress from learning the basic letterforms to writing sentences. The project for this course will include a finished quote of your choice.
