Brewster Meeting on Urban Renewal Plan

Officials will hold a public information session Feb. 24 on the plan to revitalize the village.

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Brewster will hold a public information meeting regarding the proposed Urban Renewal Plan and revitalization of the village.

Brewster’s Urban Renewal Plan covers the area identified in the village’s earlier Blight Study: along both sides of Main Street -- including the Garden Street School property -- bounded by Peaceable Hill Road on the east and Railroad Avenue on the west.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Gymnasium, 34-36 Prospect Street, Brewster.

Just in case, there is a snow date for a morning meeting, 10 a.m. Feb. 27 at the same location.

The land use strategy consists of creating a mix of residential, neighborhood retail, parking, community facilities, and open space uses at targeted locations. To achieve the redevelopment envisioned, acquisition of properties, relocation of tenants and demolition of buildings and improvements will be required.
