At the time, school board President Stephen Jambor said: "the Board feels that we have the person who best matches the needs of the District at this time. Valerie has an intimate knowledge of our Strategic plan as well as the key partners who worked with us to construct it. As such, she will enable us to have a seamless transition moving forward. Her philosophy of education embraces the growth and development of Every Child, values that we see at the very core of our educational Mission. As we look ahead to the future of this district, the Board is proud to have Dr. Henning at the helm."
It has been a turbulent two years, with issues from the logo to the annual budget (which failed the first time around this spring but was approved in a second vote) and scandals involving marching band advisor and ROTC instructor, Christopher Vlangas, arrested for an affair with a student; and Brewster High School Assistant Principal Kieran Slack, who departed abruptly.
