Brewster Trustees May Repeal Tattooing Ban

A public hearing is set for Wednesday.

Brewster village trustees are considering repealing the village’s ban on tattoo parlors.

The current village law says:

The Village of Brewster Board of Trustees finds that, based upon the experience of other municipalities, including the City of New York, the process of tattooing involves certain health risks, including increases in serum hepatitis, increased risk of transmission of other disease and further involves increased risk to the public as a result of waste disposal. The Village of Brewster Board of Trustees also finds that it has been the experience of other municipalities that regulatory measures have proved ineffective in eliminating this health risk because of the inability to supervise tattooing establishments at all times. The Village of Brewster also lacks the resources and necessary personnel to provide continuous supervision of tattooing establishments on an ongoing basis. Accordingly, the Village of Brewster Board of Trustees finds that it is in the public interest of the people of the Village of Brewster to prohibit tattooing, except for medical purposes.
